True Love - Dominic Savage

The television spotlight is set to fall upon Thanet this weekend, as the BBC broadcasts this major drama that has been filmed entirely on location in the area. The drama will be broadcast on BBC One from Sunday 17 June to Wednesday 20 June.

Created and directed by Bafta winning Dominic Savage, True Love stars David Tennant, Ashley Walters, Billie Piper, Jane Horrocks and David Morrissey. BBC One’s first improvised series, it explores five powerful and overlapping love stories as the main characters grapple with the contradictions and conflicts of love.

Set in Margate, True Love was filmed from mid-August to October last year - Margate landmarks that feature in True Love include the council’s Cecil Street offices, Turner Contemporary, the town’s Hawley Square, and Margate main sands.

The filmmakers also took action shots at Charles Dickens School in Broadstairs, the Pegwell Bay Hotel, Ramsgate, and Westwood Cross shopping centre. A number of local businesses, including the contemporary furniture and homeware store Papillon Interiors, and local homes were also used for the production.

We have the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman looking very regal and taking centre stage, the fantastic and fun Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby Tip Ton Chairs, George Nelson clocks, Alessi and much more. If you are in Margate visiting The Turner Contemporary Gallery, pop in and see us we are right opposite and dont forget to visit the lovely Old Town with it's quaint bistros, cafes and lovely shops.

Visited the Turner Contemporary last week to watch the first episode of the new series based in Margate by Dominic Savage called True Love. This one was with David Tennant. Great to see all the local landmarks, David Tenant was his usual quirky self and the ground breaking improvisation was superb!
Looking forward to seeing Papillon in the coming show to be aired in June.

The Olympic Torch - Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby

The Olympic Torch, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, will be running through the town of Margate on the 19th July. We are hoping that it will be carried past our shop, Papillon Interiors, past The Turner Contemporary Gallery and on it's way to Westgate on Sea and Birchington.

The Torch was designed by east Londoners Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, who won the opportunity through a competitive tender run by the London 2012 Organising Committee and the Design Council.

The design, engineering and manufacture celebrate the best of British talent. Barber and Osgerby worked closely with Basildon-based product engineers Tecosim and Coventry manufacturers Premier Sheet Metal to develop the prototypes for the Torch.

Design: an inspirational 8,000

The Torch is made up of an inner and an outer aluminium alloy skin, held in place by a cast top piece and base, perforated by 8,000 circles.

Representing the inspirational stories of the 8,000 Torchbearers who will carry the Olympic Flame, the circles which run the length of the body of the Torch also offer a unique level of transparency. You can see right to the heart of the Torch and view the burner system which will keep the Olympic Flame alive on its journey around the UK.

The circles also help ensure heat is quickly dissipated, without being conducted down the handle, and providing extra grip.

The Torch stands 800mm high.

The Torch is being tested in BMW’s climatic testing facility in Munich to make sure it can withstand all weather conditions. BMW is a Supporting Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

Shape: the power of '3'

The triangular-shaped Torch was inspired by a series of 'threes' that are found in the history of the Olympic Games and the vision for the Olympic Movement:

The three Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship;
The three words that make the Olympic motto – faster, higher, stronger;
The fact that the UK has hosted the Olympic Games in 1908, 1948 and will host them for the third time in 2012; and
The vision for the London 2012 Olympic Games to combine three bodies of work – sport, education and culture.
Weight: as light as possible

More than half of the London 2012 Torchbearers are expected to be young people aged as young as 12, so the designers aimed to make the Torch as light as possible.

It is made from an special aluminium alloy developed for the aerospace and automotive industry. The alloy is lightweight but strong, with excellent heat resistance. The 8,000 circles also reduce the weight of the final design, whilst ensuring strength isn’t compromised. The Torch weighs 800 grams.

Colour: gold

The gold colour embraces the qualities of the Olympic Flame – the brightness and the warmth of the light that it shines.

Tip Ton - Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby

We are just about to take delivery of the new Tip Ton chair from Vitra designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. 'A new benchmark for dynamic sitting', a plastic chair in 8 different colours, the Tip Ton can be tilted a few degrees forward where it then stays in place. The forward-tilt sitting position, until now the pre-serve of mechanical office chairs, straightens the pelvis and spine and thus improves circulation. Tip Ton is the first product to arise from the collaboration between Vitra, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.
Pop in and take a look - 40 Fort Hill Margate Old Town or view our website for more information www.papilloninteriors.co.uk. See you soon and Happy New Year.
